The ATD Greater Boston Chapter Special Interest Group on Learning Measurement Presents:

Measurement Demystified: A Simple Framework for Measurement and Reporting

    with David Vance, Ph.D.

    June 23, 2021

    2:00 PM to 3:15 PM

VIRTUAL EVENT - Link in registration email

We have come a long way as a profession, but many practitioners continue to struggle with measurement and reporting. There is a lack of clarity on what should be measured, how it should be measured, and what to do with the data once you have it. We are fortunate to have the Kirkpatrick and Phillips frameworks for program evaluation, but what about all the other reasons for measuring? And neither of these frameworks provides guidance for reporting.

This is where a simple but comprehensive framework would be very helpful. We have developed just such a framework that starts with the reasons to measure, moves on to the types of measures and guidance for selecting measures, and concludes with recommendations for the most appropriate type of report based on the reason to measure. Our hope is that this approach will provide the practical guidance needed to demystify the measurement process and help L&D professionals create and execute a good measurement and reporting strategy.

    Topics to be Covered

    • Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp) framework
    • Four broad reasons to measure
    • Three types of measures
    • Guidance for selecting measures
    • Five types of reports and guidance for their use
    • Ample time will be provided for discussion and answers to your questions.

    About the Speaker

David Vance is the Executive Director of the Center for Talent Reporting which is a nonprofit, membership-based organization dedicated to the creation and implementation of standards for human capital measurement, reporting and management. He is the former President of Caterpillar University, which he founded in 2001. Prior to this position, Dave was Chief Economist and Head of the Business Intelligence Group at Caterpillar Inc. with responsibility for economic outlooks, sales forecasts, market research, competitive analysis and business information systems.

Dave was named 2006 Chief Learning Officer (CLO) of the Year by Chief Learning Officer magazine. Caterpillar was ranked number one in the 2005 ASTD Best Awards and was named Best Overall Corporate University in 2004 by both Corporate University Xchange and the International Quality and Productivity Center.

Dave is a frequent speaker at learning conferences and association meetings. He teaches in the Ph.D. programs for human capital development at Bellevue University and the University of Southern Mississippi and in the executive education program at George Mason. He serves on the Metrics Working Group for the International Organization for Standardization and is also an Intermittent Chief Learning Officer for Defense Acquisition University. He has published two books: The Business of Learning (2nd edition, 2017), and Measurement Demystified (with Peggy Parskey, 2021). The companion field guide to Measurement Demystified is coming later in 2021.

ATD Greater Boston Presents: Results Through Relationship Intelligence with the Strength Deployment Inventory 2.0

    Thursday, June 24, 2021

Virtual event - link in registration email

    12:00pm – 1:30pm

Learn How to Build Agile Teams Where Relationships Thrive

For high achievers, building collaborative relationships is priority one. In-person or dispersed, they understand that members of their teams can go farther together than they can alone. The good news: you too can leverage the power of relationships and drive results.

Relationships Intelligence is powered by the Strength Deployment Inventory 2.0 (SDI 2.0). This award-winning, scientifically validated assessment provides four views of a person. It reveals why they do what they do, and how they relate to others. Experiencing the SDI 2.0 assessment for yourself and being able to review your unique results during the workshop will be the key to unleashing relationship intelligence for you and your teams.

    Who Should Attend This Workshop?

This workshop is for leaders and team members who want to learn how to:

    • Empower your team to see the early signs of conflict and resolve it
    • Build a team that can see all sides of an issue, make timely decisions, and deliver results
    • Communicate with clarity to all different personality types
    • Help your team build resilient relationships—with or without in-person interaction

Prework: Before the Workshop: Take the SDI 2.0 assessment — a $125-dollar value!

You’ll receive a link to the SDI 2.0 assessment upon registration.

    ATD Greater Boston Presents:
Making Micro Work: 20 Ways to Use MicroLearning to Add Value for Your Learners

    with Carla Torgerson

    Wednesday, August 11, 2021

Virtual event - link in registration email

    6:30pm – 8:00pm

Microlearning is one of the least understood trends in workplace training today. Everyone wants to “go micro” and every vendor says their solution includes microlearning. However, there are many different use cases and formats for microlearning, so everyone says they’re using microlearning, but they are all doing something vastly different. This creates a tremendous challenge for us to identify best design practices, delivery approaches, and implementation methods. When we actually understand HOW we are going micro, we have a far greater chance of doing it successfully.

In this session, you’ll identify how to go micro with the greatest impact in your curriculum. First we’ll share 4 primary use cases for microlearning and look at real examples of these different types of microlearning used successfully in organizations today. Then you will consider how you can use these types of microlearning in your own curriculum.

Then we’ll get tactical! We’ll identify 20 ways to go micro and you will identify which of these 20 ways would work best in your curriculum so you can walk away with specific ideas for how you can capitalize on microlearning – in real and tangible ways – in your own work. You will leave this session with fresh ideas for incorporating microlearning successfully in your curriculum!

In this session you will learn:

    • Four use cases for microlearning.
    • Five formats for microlearning.
    • Twenty ways to go micro.
    • How to use microlearning to make the greatest difference in your curriculum.
