Running Highly Effective Virtual Trainings and MOOCs

with Nancy Settle-Murphy and Ed Bell

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

6:00pm–8:30pm

ATD Greater Boston is thrilled to offer a unique doubleheader of expert guidance for both virtual trainings (AKA webinar/synchronous trainings) and Massive Open Online Course trainings (AKA MOOCs).

If you find yourself multitasking during webinars or MOOCs, you’re not alone. Most virtual learning programs still rely on narrated PowerPoint slides, with minimal opportunities for participant interaction. The usual result: People tune out, drift off, and forget just about everything they’ve heard, assuming they have even been listening.

Nancy Settle-Murphy, President of Guided Insights, and Ed Bell, Director of Education Technologies at Dell/EMC, will share their first-hand experiences with designing and delivering highly effective virtual trainings and MOOCs. You will discover why Nancy is such a big proponent of embedding multitasking – on task – into every virtual learning program, and why Dell/EMC has found high value with their MOOC program and how Ed has made sure that their MOOC sessions are a big success.

Among the topics we’ll explore:

  • Why pre-work is so vital and how to make it compelling
  • How to determine the best combination of tools and approaches to keep people engaged, based on learning objectives, number of participants, and other variables
  • How to use asynchronous and synchronous forms of participation
  • Hints and tips for getting and keeping participants engaged
  • Managing difficult situations
  • Reflecting cultural differences in your design

Whether you’re “translating” an onsite course for virtual delivery or creating a new instructor-led virtual course from the ground up, this session is for you. See you in Boston on August 9th!
