ATD GREATER BOSTON PRESENTS:
The Immersive Learning Transformation: Next Gen VR and Mobile Games and Simulations

with Anders Gronstedt, Ph.D.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2020

Virtual event - link in registration email

6:30pm – 8:30pm

How does the largest employer on the planet, Walmart, attract and develop a new generation of managers who have spent more time playing games than they have in the classroom? How does pharmaceutical leader Novartis quickly train people on best practice procedures where mistakes have life and death consequences?

In this session you’ll step inside of the leading-edge immersive learning simulators and games used by Fortune 50 companies. Experience VR simulators modeled on the flight simulator, which has (up until now, anyway) been the gold standard for skill-based learning. Hyper-realistic VR performance environments offer a digital rehearsal space of such convincing verisimilitude that trainees feel they are actually there. With unlimited do-overs, learners can maximize “reps and sets” to accelerate skill development.

Download and play Walmart's "Spark City" game on your own phone, which maximize skill practice "reps and sets." The session will inspire with examples from industry leaders who are ushering in a new era of experiential and visceral learning. Leave the glowing desktop screen and classroom behind and step into a new world of immersive learning.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How industry leading companies are tapping into the exploding popularity of console-quality 3D games for the mobile handset to reinforce new skills and concepts.
  • How to deploy immersive learning solutions at scale in a large enterprise, safely integrated with legacy LMS and LRS
  • How students and instructors can interact with each other in multi-player VR sims.

This session explores how a new gen “first-person thinker” games can provide a risk-free virtual rehearsal space for skill practice and building the cognitive equivalent of muscle memory. We’ll explore how to develop human-centered learning simulations with tutorials, feedback, guided practice, engagement and scenario design. Watch examples of VR sims and mobile games where learners practice skills under a variety of stressful conditions.
